The records in this subgroup consist of 694 cards of microfiche and span the ten years from 1968-1978. They reflect the involvement of Dr. Clark and M. D. Anderson with national and international medical organizations and consist primarily of correspondence, news clippings, legislative reports, financial records, meeting agendas and minutes, newsletters, directories, grant proposals, and contracts. The bulk of the materials date from 1972-1978 and consist of correspondence with the Association of American Cancer Institutes, the President’s Cancer Panel, the National Advisory Cancer Board, the National Cancer Institute, the National Institutes for Health, the International Cancer Research Data Bank, the International Union Against Cancer, and other national cancer centers. The remaining materials consist of program proposals, information about grants, and grants training. Among the more unusual records in this subgroup are Dr. Clark’s 1974 handwritten draft of a letter to President Nixon upon Nixon’s resignation from office, Dr. Clark’s (1976) predictions about the coming twenty-five years of cancer treatment and research, articles about contemporary cancer centers around the country, a 1977status report on international cancer projects, a copy of a 1975 article written by Dr. Clark about the Association of American Cancer Institutes, and a 1974 article on the medical consequences of war. Because there was a short period of time in which the administrative responsibilities of Dr. Clark and the duties of his successor, Dr. Charles A. LeMaistre, overlapped, there are a few documents in this body of materials that were generated by Dr. LeMaistre or his staff.
