Materials: Scrap thermoplastic splinting material
"This project has been constructed with scrap thermoplastic splinting material that the outpatient occupational therapy department has been collecting since last year’s Recycled Materials Art Challenge. As occupational therapists, we use splinting material to fabricate custom splints in order to support, protect, and facilitate function of various parts of the body, but most commonly the hand. Many of us take for granted the complexity of our hands and the ways in which they work together to allow us to interact with the world around us. One of the most important ways we can use our hands is to help one another in times of need. This project represents MD Anderson’s supportive culture and how we are inspired and encouraged to lend a helping hand to not only our patients, but to one another, on a daily basis. May these pieces of splinting material serve as a personal reminder to us of the many hands that our own hands have helped throughout the past year."
