Albert E. Gunn, J.D., M.D., joined MD Anderson in 1975 as an assistant professor in Rehabilitation Services. He was born and raised in Port Washington, New York. Before pursuing a career in medicine, Dr. Gunn attended Fordham College and Fordham Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctor. He subsequently served in the United States Air Force as a member of the Judge Advocate General’s Corps.

Dr. Gunn later decided to pursue a career in medicine and enrolled at the National University of Ireland, Galway. After completing medical school, he returned to New York State, where he completed his internship at Montefiore Hospital and his residency in internal medicine at Roosevelt Hospital.

Through mutual connections, Dr. Gunn met MD Anderson’s first president, R. Lee Clark, who recruited him to help establish the institution’s Rehabilitation Center. Over the course of his career, Dr. Gunn held appointments as a Professor of Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, as well as positions with the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health and the National Library of Medicine.

Following administrative changes to the Rehabilitation Center, Dr. Gunn continued his work at MD Anderson in the Section of Geriatrics and the Department of Internal Medicine.
